Winter means Christmas, cold weather and hibernating. After growing up in Florida and then moving up north, winter has a completely new meaning for me. As a kid, winter was not much different than the rest of the year. Then when I went to college in DC, that all changed. I went from never needing a coat, to needing lots of different ones! I moved even farther after college, up to New England. And then we were talking even colder weather. Now I’ve studied Chinese Medicine, I understand how important it is to follow nature if we want to stay healthy. So, what are the bears doing during the winter? You guessed it… hibernating.

Let me explain about hibernating…

As winter approaches, so does Christmas, and Hanukkah. We all seem to get caught up in parties and friends and family coming over, and sometimes that means we don’t get enough rest. This puts a strain on our bodies when we most need rest! Remember how important it is to listen to your body and rest when you feel tired. Think about what the bears and other animals are doing while its cold outside. You don’t seem them running around, going to parties and gathering food! They did that in the fall. Now they are allowing their bodies to store up the energy they need for Spring and Summer. If you know you are going out to a party, try to get a nap or plan to make up the sleep the next night.
