Qi Gong is a wonderful combination of energy, flow, power and relaxation. Lee Holden states that “Qi is the unifying principle. When the Qi is flowing, the body, mind and spirit are vibrant and healthy.” Here is a 20 minute video that will help you see how Qi Gong is practiced.

The goal of Qi Gong and Eastern Medicine (namely acupuncture), is to strengthen the immune system of the body. By building the life force energy, aka, “Qi” (pronounced CHEE), it strengthens the immune system, clears stress and tension and circulates the Qi to all parts of the body. The best part is that once you learn some of the moves, you can do it anywhere. You do not need a gym or another partner. You can take 10 or 15 minutes during your day to practice and you will immediately feel better body, mind and spirit. It is easy to follow and Lee Holden’s videos are user friendly and simple to learn.

Qi Gong energy practices- how they work in your body:

What I love about Chinese Medicine is the fact that it gets to the root of the problem. When we experience “dis-ease” in our bodies, often there is a source from which it came. Sure we can recognize our symptoms such as shoulder pain or a headache. The trick is to understand and to uncover why it is happening. Focusing only on symptoms is like playing that “Whack-a-Mole” game at a fair. You may be able to get rid of or mask one symptom with a bandaid or a pill. However, symptoms, like the whack-a-mole, will surely pop up somewhere else in your body. Or return again after a short time. Furthermore, masking symptoms often creates other health issues. Real healing solutions depend on our ability to prevent problems before they arise. Seeking long term solutions in a holistic manner is one way to begin this. If you address the root cause, the problem goes away all together. If you only work on the symptoms or the branch, the pattern might show up as something else and/or persistently come back.

Understanding the root versus the branch

Qi Gong is one way to work on healing your body from the inside out. Add acupuncture to this and you have a system with which to prevent illness and heal the body of what is causing the symptoms. For example, if someone with a headache takes a pain killer but does not address the cause of the headache, the pain may persist of even spread out into other areas of the body. This may cause neck tension, teeth grinding, TMJ or migraines. The root cause might be stress, overwork or lack of adequate sleep. Addressing the cause by managing stress, getting more rest or finding a balance in their work life, the headaches go away and other symptoms do not manifest. It is similar to pulling up the roots of a weed rather than just cutting off the tops.

Qi Gong energy practices- Prevention is the key

When it comes to generating abundant energy and creating vibrant health, Western medicine falls short. Allopathic medicine does not focus on staying healthy, rather it treats after the fact. Someone comes in with high blood pressure, they give a pill to lower it. Another patient comes in with acid-reflux or GERD, you get a pill to stop the HCL from being produced in your body. Western medicine fails to prevent problems before they arise. Prevention begins with managing stress and alleviating excess mental and physical tension. Qi Gong and Acupuncture both do this. What we eat, how we eat and when we eat also make a difference in how we feel. Go here to read more about Chinese Nutrition tips.
